Key Features

  • Manual Wavelength Selection: The operator selects the target wavelength manually by rotating the mechanical wavelength dial on the front panel, while the system provides photometric readings on the digital display.
  • One-Button Auto-Zero / Blanking: Eliminates the process of manual zero-potentiometer adjustment. Pressing the zero button automatically calibrates the 0%T and 100%T baseline to stabilize measurements before sample analysis.
  • Direct Concentration Reading: Supports straightforward quantitative testing. Users can manually enter F-factors (K, B factors) or input standard concentration values via the built-in numeric keypad to obtain direct concentration readouts on the screen.
  • Expanded Sample Compartment: The manual sample holder accommodates cell path lengths ranging from 5mm up to 100mm, offering flexibility for low-concentration samples requiring long-pathlength cuvettes.
  • Basic Digital Connectivity: Features an integrated USB port and a parallel printer port. This allows the instrument to connect to a Windows PC or output measurement data directly to a compatible local printer.

Applications

The V-1100 is engineered for routine visible-spectrum testing where high-resolution spectral scanning is not required:

  • Water Quality Testing: Standard colorimetric determination of common water parameters such as phosphate, ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) at fixed wavelengths.
  • Agricultural Analysis: Routine colorimetric measurements of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and organic matter content in soil and fertilizer extracts.
  • Chemical & General Education: Demonstration of Beer-Lambert Law principles and optical density (OD600) cell culture monitoring in high school and university laboratories.
  • Food Quality Control: Measuring visible-spectrum color intensity, turbidity, or concentration of dyes in food processing and beverage manufacturing.

Who is it for?

  • High Schools and Colleges: Chemistry, biology, and physics teaching labs requiring an uncomplicated, durable device that students can easily operate.
  • Small-Scale Industrial Laboratories: Small water treatment plants, chemical factories, and farm cooperatives performing routine, repetitive assays at fixed wavelengths.
  • Procurement Tenders: An entry-level visible range offering for educational or agricultural laboratory tenders that specifically request standard, manual-wavelength visible spectrophotometers.

Why choose it?

  • Cost-Efficient Visible Analysis: If your laboratory protocol only requires measurements between 325nm and 1000nm, the V-1100 visible spectrophotometer avoids the higher acquisition and maintenance costs of a UV-Vis model (which requires quartz cuvettes and deuterium lamp replacements).
  • Simplified Maintenance: Utilizing a pre-aligned tungsten halogen lamp, the light source replacement is straightforward and can be completed by laboratory staff, helping to keep operational downtime to a minimum.
  • Digital Microprocessor Upgrade: While utilizing a manual wavelength dial, the V-1100 features a single-chip microprocessor that supports automatic 0%T / 100%T adjustment and direct concentration reading, making it more convenient and less prone to reading drift than older analog colorimeters.

Packaging, Installation & Operation

Packaging & Shipping

After unpacking the instrument, compare the contents with the packing list and check that all items are present and undamaged.

Installation & Setup

Place the spectrophotometer in a suitable location away from direct sunlight, dust, corrosive gases, and strong vibrations. For stable operation, keep it away from strong magnetic or electrical fields and electrical devices that may generate high-frequency fields.

Keep the area around and underneath the instrument clear to allow adequate airflow.

Use the appropriate power cord and connect the instrument to a grounded outlet.

Initial Operation

Turn on the spectrophotometer and allow it to warm up for the recommended time before taking measurements. Follow the instrument’s operating instructions to complete any required system initialization, calibration, or wavelength verification before measurement.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

No. The V-1100 is a manual wavelength model. Wavelength changes must be done by hand using the front dial. It does not contain an internal wavelength drive motor.

No. Direct quantification of nucleic acids and proteins occurs at 260nm and 280nm, which is within the ultraviolet (UV) range. Because the V-1100’s optical limit begins at 325nm, it cannot detect UV light.

No. Quartz cuvettes are only required for measurements below 320nm in the ultraviolet range. For the V-1100, standard glass cuvettes or visible-range plastic cuvettes are completely suitable.

The wavelength of the V-1100 is set mechanically via the dial. To verify accuracy, operators can measure standard didymium glass filters or liquid standards with known visible-range absorption peaks. The baseline (0%T/100%T) calibrates automatically when you press the auto-zero button.

No. The spectrophotometer functions fully in standalone mode. Operators can read transmittance, absorbance, and direct concentration values directly on the 4-digit LED display. Connecting to a PC via the USB port is optional.
