Applications

The UV-1800S is utilized across academic, industrial, and clinical laboratories requiring UV-Vis analytical capabilities:

  • Pharmaceutical Analysis: Purity validation, active ingredient assay testing, and resolution verification in accordance with international pharmacopoeia standards.
  • Life Sciences & Biotechnology: Quantitative concentration determination of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA at 260nm) and proteins (at 280nm), alongside enzyme reaction kinetics.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Colorimetric and UV screening of surface water, wastewater, nitrates, phosphates, and organic chemical contaminants.
  • Food Safety & Industrial QC: Monitoring product color parameters, food additives, preservative levels, and chemical raw material purity.

Who is it for?

  • Pharmaceutical QC & Compliance Laboratories: Analysts who require a double-beam platform with a 1.0nm or 0.5nm slit setting to meet regulatory pharmacopoeial resolution tests.
  • Academic and Research Institutions: University laboratories conducting molecular spectroscopy, reaction kinetics, and high-resolution wavelength scans.
  • Industrial Testing Centers: Chemical and food processing quality departments needing a reliable, low-drift platform capable of operating standalone or through software.

Why choose it?

  • Continuous Reference Referencing: In contrast to single-beam instruments that require periodic manual re-blanking, the UV-1800S constantly measures the blank and sample simultaneously, maintaining baseline stability during long scanning cycles.
  • Bandwidth Versatility (UV-1800S vs. UV-1800): While the standard UV-1800 provides a single fixed bandwidth, the UV-1800S features four selectable slits (0.5/1.0/2.0/4.0nm), allowing laboratories to switch between high optical resolution for fine peak separation and wider slits for high-energy sample throughput.
  • Standalone and PC Flexibility: The onboard microprocessor, large memory buffer, and 6-inch LCD allow operators to conduct routine quantitative analysis and view standard curves without a connected PC, while USB PC control is available for comprehensive data export.

Packaging, Installation & Operation

Packaging & Shipping

After unpacking the instrument, compare the contents with the packing list and check that all items are present and undamaged.

Installation & Setup

Place the spectrophotometer in a suitable location away from direct sunlight, dust, corrosive gases, and strong vibrations. For stable operation, keep it away from strong magnetic or electrical fields and electrical devices that may generate high-frequency fields.

Keep the area around and underneath the instrument clear to allow adequate airflow.

Use the appropriate power cord and connect the instrument to a grounded outlet.

Initial Operation

Turn on the spectrophotometer and allow it to warm up for the recommended time before taking measurements. Follow the instrument’s operating instructions to complete any required system initialization, calibration, or wavelength verification before measurement.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

The standard UV-1800 model features a fixed spectral bandwidth (typically 1.8nm or 2.0nm). The UV-1800S is equipped with a mechanical slit selector offering four adjustable bandwidths (0.5nm, 1.0nm, 2.0nm, and 4.0nm), making it adaptable to regulatory testing requirements that mandate specific slit widths.

Yes. With an optical range extending down to 190nm and an imported deuterium lamp, the UV-1800S can measure ultraviolet absorption at 260nm and 280nm for nucleic acid and protein quantification.

Yes, for measurements in the ultraviolet region below 320nm, quartz cuvettes are required because optical glass and general plastics absorb UV radiation. Standard optical glass cuvettes can be used for measurements in the visible spectrum above 320nm.

Measurement data and spectra can be saved to an external USB flash drive directly from the instrument. Alternatively, the UV-1800S can connect to a PC running compatible software via USB, or print directly through its parallel printer interface.

The UV-1800S utilizes a Czerny-Turner optical configuration with a 1200 lines/mm holographic grating, paired with imported silicon photodiode detectors configured for true double-beam operation.
